Dietitians and Allied Health Assistants

An Allied Health Assistant working with a Dietitian plays a crucial role in supporting and enhancing the delivery of nutritional care and guidance.

An allied health assistant can gather relevant patient information, such as medical history, dietary habits, and lifestyle factors. Using this information, they may help develop personalized meal plans with the Dietitian, considering dietary restrictions, preferences, and specific health conditions. They may also provide guidance on portion sizes, food choices, and meal preparation techniques.

The Allied Health Assistant can also support the Dietitian in providing educational resources and information to patients and their families. As well as providing ongoing support and encouragement to individuals who may be struggling to make dietary changes.

An allied health assistant can help monitor a patients' adherence to dietary recommendations and documenting their progress.

Exercise Physiologists and Allied Health Assistants

An Allied Health Assistant collaborates closely with the Exercise Physiologist to support and enhance the delivery of exercise-based interventions and programs.

They may assist in conducting initial assessments and screenings, help design individualized programs for each patient, assist in demonstrating exercises and ensure the patient understands the correct technique, form and safety precautions all under the supervision of the exercise physiologist.

Diabetes Educators and Allied Health Assistants

An Allied Health Assistant working with a diabetes educator collaborates closely to support individuals with diabetes in managing their condition effectively.

Alongside the Diabetes Educator, the AHA may assist in providing education and information to patients about diabetes, including its management, self-care techniques, and lifestyle modifications. They can help implement those big lifestyle changes by re-iterating guidance on medications, healthy eating, exercise changes and managing the blood glucose levels daily as per advice from the allied health professional.
